🏠 New homes for battery engineers - part 3
Thinking about ways to help in light of recent news on layoffs and bankruptcies. Over the last 12 months, there’s been a handful of bankruptcies and layoffs, unfortunately.
The latest news comes from Ionic Materials which has shut its doors after 12 years. Link to public profiles from the team looking for work.
In addition, Moxion has announced layoffs of 101 employees out of 286 total employees this week.
The impact on teams is something we deeply empathize with. We at Intercalation Station are saddened to see our colleagues in the battery community have their jobs terminated so suddenly. To help with the transition to new roles, we’re putting together a little open call, whether you’re a job seeker interested in putting your details down, or you’re hiring for a new position in your team, we’re hoping to connect the dots.
There were a lot of replies so we may do this in multiple parts and post periodically.
💼 Hiring for a role
Voltaiq (Remote) - Voltaiq helps battery manufacturers identify anomalies faster, decreasing scrap rate and accelerating manufacturing ramp up time. With Voltaiq, battery engineers get alerted to problems within the first hours of formation, just after cell assembly, to find and fix upstream issues fast: Platform Engineer
Northvolt (Montreal) - We are seeking experienced Senior Managers in Manufacturing Engineering to join our mission in establishing one of North America's first large-scale battery factories. This role includes an opportunity to spend 6-12 months at our development centers and gigafactories in Europe. You will lead a team of high-performing engineers, driving innovation in battery cell production from equipment design to production ramp-up. We are looking for individuals with experience leading large-scale automated equipment commissioning, deep technical knowledge in electrode, cell assembly, or formation & ageing, extensive experience in high-cadence automotive manufacturing.
Northvolt (Montreal) - Northvolt is looking for a Senior Process Safety Engineer to join our dynamic team in developing cutting-edge battery technologies. If you have deep expertise in CSA regulations, machine safety, and process safety in electrochemistry and high-cadence mechanical assembly, we want you!
Northvolt (Montreal) - Northvolt is looking for a Director of Engineering for Upstream Cathode Active Material to join our dynamic team in developing cutting edge battery technologies. If you have deep expertise in leading engineering design teams working with large capital projects and operations ,engineering and maintenance management roles, and you are passionate to design worlds' greenest battery, then Northvolt will be the place for you.
Boris Gragera (Inition Energy, Oxford UK) - Looking for a Senior Electrochemist Engineer focussed on designing slurry and coating strategies and optimizing the performance of our electrodes for our new electrode production technology.
Gunstein Skomedal (Kristiansand, Norway) - Hiring a Senior research scientist at Vianode
Wes Chang (Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA) - I lead a battery research group at Drexel University, where we focus on understanding how material properties of various battery chemistries influence cell-level behavior. I'm looking for a battery engineer from industry who has the itch to do science, and it could be a PhD position or a Postdoc for those who have already done their PhD. Given the likely low salary compared to industry - a passion for research, mentorship, and desire to conduct such research unhindered by administration or commercialization needs is likely needed.
