Intercalation x Faraday Institution Essay Competiton
We are thrilled to announce an essay competition with the upcoming Faraday Institution Conference this September. This competition aims to engage thinkers and communicators in envisioning the future of the battery industry.
Prompt: "Your vision for the battery industry in 2040"
Participants are invited to submit essays exploring their perspectives on the future of the battery industry. Consider innovations, technological advancements, market trends, environmental impacts, and societal changes that could shape the industry over the next decade. You could also highlight what you see as the major challenges and roadmap in reaching that vision. The prompt is broad deliberately, we want to see what you do with it, and how you tell the story.
Competition Details
Launch Date: July 1st 2024
Submission Deadline: September 5th 2024
Judging Period: September 6-12th 2024
Winners Announced: Faraday Institution Conference, September 12th 2024
Submission Guidelines
Length: Essays should be no more than 1,500 words.
Format: Submissions must be in PDF format, using a 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins. Images, hyperlinks, and other media are accepted and encouraged.
Eligibility: Open to all individuals at the conference or affiliated with The Faraday Institution. Winner announced at the Faraday Institution Conference, but you do not have to be in attendance.
How to Submit: Essays should be submitted on Google Forms. If there are difficulties in submission, email issy@intercalation.co with the subject line “Intercalation Essay Competition - [Name]"

Winner: £750
Honourable Mention: £500
The top essays will be published on our Substack and recognized at the Faraday Institution Conference September 2024.
Judging Panel
The judging panel will comprise select members of the Intercalation Team, including experts and thought leaders in the field. The panel will evaluate submissions based on (1) originality, (2) clarity, (3) depth of analysis, and (4) relevance to the prompt.
