Intercalation turns 2!!!
2️⃣ years on Substack
Intercalation Station was founded exactly 2 years ago. I started this newsletter with Andrew because we wanted to share bite-size accurate battery news in an industry that was so fast-moving (graphs are literally outdated within days 😱) and it always blows our minds to see how far it has come. I wanted to take some time to reflect and share our path so far.
Readership: About 1,700 (+123%) new readers boarded the train at Intercalation Station with a total of 3,000 readers today from 500+ companies and organizations. In the last year, we published 45 issues and today we’re ranked 8th on Substack for climate-related newsletters. A huge thank you to our readers who support us every day by reading, sharing, interacting, and providing feedback and guidance over the last year, as well as financially supporting us through our paid subscriptions and founding member subscriptions.
Summary of all total traffic since our first article in April 2020 with each spike roughly corresponding to a new issue (reminds me of NMR spectroscopy!).
Connections: Writing Intercalation Station has allowed us to meet hundreds of founders, investors, engineers, and scientists in the field who are all passionate about the field in their own ways, and each of them has helped shape our view of the industry and report back to you through our writing.
Team: I feel so lucky to be able to meet people who want to join our team and write alongside us. Today, we have grown to a team of 6 to deliver tailored content to our readers. We’re all doing this part-time in our evenings and weekends and I’m grateful to have met welcomed new cool passionate teammates and contributors over the last year: Ethan (Dalhousie MSc Candidate), Pooja (Tesla battery intern, UCL PhD), Dan (Author of TECHtricity), Gaël (Flow battery expert). A personal highlight for me was publishing and co-authoring the 2021 Battery Report which took several hundred collective hours over 4-5 months with a giant team of authors and contributors. We are working on a few other big items this year which we hope you’ll like too.
