Asks and shares from Aug 2023
Teddy Feldmann (It's Time to Mine) - Weekly summary of mining industry news with a focus on critical minerals required for the energy transition.
Alex Mitchell (Full Turn Capital) - Interested in talking to those who invest in Cleantech, either as VCs or LPs. And if you like where batteries meet logistics, transportation, supply chain, & mobility: alexmitchell.substack.com
Ben Hilborn (Perl Street) - Doing market discovery and beta trials of their FinOps platform for DER developers & asset managers. Looking for curious finance and ops people who would be open to a discovery and demo, and to sharing their thoughts.
Juan David Campolargo - Wrote “The Cheesy Energy of Lithium” and might be useful/interesting!
Thomas De Clippeleer (Novali) - Novali, a Belgian battery technology startup, is raising a seed round (€2m+). They are developing next-gen affordable high-energy density cells based on high voltage cathodes, a semi-solid electrolyte and a lithium metal anode. Feel free to check our website and reach out if you're interested.
Gaetan Depaepe (Entroview) - Entroview is currently raising its seed round. Entroview is a deep-tech startup that develops software for battery diagnosis. Their technology can be applied to gigafactories (with the first POC validated with a gigafactory) and automotive companies (with POC validated with a European player). They are closing in September and are still looking to add a few strategic players to complete the round.
Jaan Juurikas (EV Universe) - All battery geeks are invited to join the EV geeks at the EV Universe newsletter.
Vineet Dravid (oorja) - oorja is building a cloud-based interface using the hybrid approach which couples physics-based modelling with ML to perform accurate and faster predictions of the thermal and degradation behaviour of batteries. Their goal is to enable battery designers to quickly set up models and get results and move ahead with the design process.
Eden Yates (Cling Systems) - Cling is looking for partners to build second-life Li-ion battery systems. Preferences: using modules, based in Europe, ability to handle large volumes (5-10 MWh per month).
Skander Garroum (Climate Drift) - Launched Climate Drift to help folks understand climate solutions and find their unique role in our journey to Net Zero. Check out their launch posts: 4 Frameworks on Climate Solutions: From Surviving the Four Valleys of Death to The S Curve of Adoption.
Currently deep diving into Solar: How Solar got cheap and Residential Solar.Jack Sullivan (RedCarbon) - RedCarbon's vision is to use and sequester DAC-Carbon simultaneously, above ground, in a grid-scale battery. We can sequester Gt's of CO2 if we capture only 20% of the stationary storage market by 2050. I'm recruiting technical cofounders.
Dominic Frisone (University of Akron) - Interested to learn what are battery manufacturers' rank-ordered priorities when selecting recycling partners for manufacturing scrap.
Henry Baity (Liminal Insights) - Liminal Insights is hiring! Check out their openings here.
Gaël Mourouga (CSEM) - The battery team at CSEM in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, is growing fast! Their focus lies in improving SoX (state-of-charge, state-of-health, state-of-safety) estimators by using models based on EIS characterization, where non-invasive EIS sensing is directly integrated into cell-level BMS. They are looking for R&D engineers, software engineers, and laboratory technicians with experience in batteries. Check out open positions here or on LinkedIn.
